C – I am back home!
I missed home. I love Seattle, but it is so great to be back home. It always seems harder to go away for work on a weekend than on a work day. Oh well. I learned a lot, met a lot of people and got my first food blogging conference over with.
One thing I was curious about when I left home was what was the food going to be like? First off, I didn’t shoot the first nights meal. I went out to eat in Seattle. I just had to hang out with my friend Philip when I was there. We went to Tamarind Tree in the International District. Delicious vegetarian appetizers and soups (which I didn’t shoot) and a great tasting noodle dish with shrimp, pork and chicken on the plate. It was definitely worth the $14 price.
I did go to the evening reception but most of the food was desserts and I really didn’t care for them since I was so full.
Light breakfast of yogurt and topping with muffins. I need some savory foods and less sweet. I was hungry an hour later. I wasn’t too happy with this because lunch wasn’t for another 3 hours. Worst of all, they gave us a food demo without tasting anything until the end.
They served a duck confit slider that wasn’t as great as I hoped. The bun was a little soggy because they placed jus or some kind of sauce on top. It had some good flavors, but it wasn’t enough to quench my appetite. I was counting down the minutes until lunch.
Lunch was good. There was a fresh Tuscan salad, with lots of vegetables, ricotta lasagna that was surprisingly good. The only problem was the dry chicken Parmesan. The only meat thing on the plate and it was dry.
I couldn’t wait to eat dinner. It just was a little too long for us to wait for the good stuff. They promised us good stuff and they really delivered (I did hear that last year’s was better though. Oh well it was still fun). Full of pretty food, great flavors and local dishes. This is what everyone was waiting for.
Pretty sushi, huge scallops, Thai fried chicken and waffles, awesome sliders, and sous vide steaks that I went back 3 times. I was so full. Only problem for me is there is never a balance of things. I was full when I left the tasting area, but got hungry when I got to my room. I think I needed some greens and vegetables to balance out all the rich meat and carbs that I ate. Luckily they did give us fruit to eat. I snuck some upstairs.
Well my first food conference down. I learned a lot. There was lots of good information. I’m so glad to be back and glad to have met so many hard working, great bloggers that are in the same boat of trying to figure out this whole blogging thing.
All we know is that we all love food, love telling about it and want to share our passion with the world.
I largely share you opinion of the conference this weekend. I was starving 10 minutes into the photography session on Saturday morning, so my friend and I snuck out and went down to Pike’s Place and got an amazing Piroshky! The chicken parm was unedible it was so dry. Blah. I wasn’t impressed with any of the food the actual conference put on, actually. The taste on Saturday night was fantastic though! The chicken and waffles, scallops, the waygu beef short ribs, and the sous vide steak were really, really incredible.
